Don't Just Read To Your Child....

Discuss!

As an educational consultant, it is my job to help parents understand what they are doing right and what they are....simply needing to do more of. Many parents out there are good parents - but I do not expect them to read an average of two books a week on the topics that are needed to make you more effective at what you do.

It is a great idea to read with your child. However, as I have noticed with many families, it seems that the act of reading is just not enough. When you read to your child, it is a time when your little one is building vocabulary and comprehension - even at 6 months old. They listen to the different cues that are on your face and will stop and listen to find out what the main idea or the conflict is. The bottom line is when your children are young - this is really the best time to help them "understand" what they are reading so that they do not have a difficult time later on.
